What is a Subluxation?

The term “subluxation” is used by doctors of chiropractic to depict the altered position of the vertebrae and subsequent functional loss, which determines the location for the spinal manipulation. Subluxations can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from a minor slip to something as serious as a car accident or sudden trauma. At Total Health and Rehab Center in Plantation, FL, we believe the body is an amazing machine. Therefore, if yours is causing you pain, coming to visit us can only help improve it.

In very basic terms, a subluxation is when one or more of the bones in a person’s spine move out of position creating pressure on or irritating the nerves in their spine. As time goes by and subluxation remains untreated, the spine and surrounding features such as discs can begin to degenerate. This degeneration becomes more difficult to reverse as time goes by as the surrounding muscles, nerves and bones begin to adjust to the new shape. Subluxation symptoms can vary depending on the person, but if you are experiencing any type of spine or nerve pain, please give us a call.

Importance of Alone Time

At Total Health and Rehab, Dr. Michael Minett, DC takes a responsible role in restoring your health and encourages you to do the same. It’s hard to schedule alone time for ourselves and with the daily demands that life bestows upon us, we may find it absolutely impossible. Though socializing with friends and other loved ones is an essential part of living a healthy, happy life, it’s also essential to make time to simply be with you, to recharge and reset.

Moments by yourself give you time to recover your resources from the stress of being around others. In addition, “me time” also allows the opportunity to improve concentration, make you more productive, give space for self-discovery and provides you with the chance to reflect on situations that are happening in your life. Quality “me” time doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be alone, either. Just doing activities and things that you love counts too!

Chiropractic X-ray: When is it Necessary?

At Total Health and Rehab, our staff wants patients to know that when Dr. Michael Minett, DC determines the need for an X-ray, it is always for your safety, benefit, and diagnosis. X-rays are often completed to give the doctor an inside look as to what is going on with the bone structure of the entire spine and surrounding skeletal structure. An X-ray allows Dr. Minett to view your current spine angles and develop a more individualized treatment plan.

Many patients do not require X-rays, however, as a general guideline X-rays are recommended if the patient has sustained a significant traumatic injury, as a bone may be broken or a joint may be dislocated. They may also be suggested when an infection is causing the patient’s pain and/or if any significant joint disease is suspected (arthritis). Because X-rays expose patients to radiation, unless there is a valid reason to have one, we only recommended them as needed.

What is Whiplash?

Whiplash is a term that describes an injury to the neck that typically occurs as a result of a car accident, but the injury can also result from a sports accident, physical abuse or other trauma. Whiplash injuries can be quite complex and may include a variety of related problems, such as joint dysfunction, disc herniation, and chronic pain. Because Dr. Michael Minett, DC specializes in soft and hard tissue problems, it is recommended that you visit Total Health & Rehab to get a full examination.

Common signs and symptoms of whiplash include neck pain, stiffness, and headaches. Patients who experience this condition may recover within a few months of chiropractic treatment. It is important to visit us for a prompt and accurate diagnosis to rule out fractures or other tissue damage that may be contributing to symptoms. The appropriate chiropractic treatment is unique to each whiplash injury and is directed at the primary dysfunctions detected during the chiropractic exam.
